Gangadikal is a spectacular trek in the Kudremukh National Park, Chikkamagaluru district, standing at 4,806 ft. The 16 km trail blends physical challenge with raw Western Ghats beauty — dense evergreen forest, shola grasslands, moss-covered rock faces and a dramatic summit that offers sweeping views of the entire Kudremukh ridge and its deep valleys. The region is home to deer, lion-tailed macaques, Malabar giant squirrels and leopards. The package also includes a visit to the ancient Beluru Hoysala Temple and the scenic Samse Tea Estate, making it a complete weekend experience.

    Departure from Bengaluru

    09:00 PM: Pickup from Bengaluru. Overnight travel to Chikkamagaluru in a comfortable vehicle.

  2. Day 1 — Morning
    Arrival & Trek to Gangadikal Peak

    06:30 AM: Arrive at the homestay in Chikkamagaluru. 07:30 AM: Freshen up. 08:30 AM: Hearty breakfast and pack lunch. 09:30 AM: Begin the Gangadikal Peak trek through dense Western Ghats forest.

  3. Day 1 — Afternoon
    Summit & Campfire

    01:30 PM: Reach Gangadikal peak — packed lunch with panoramic ridge views. 02:30 PM: Start descending. 04:30 PM: Return to trek base. 05:30 PM: Reach homestay, relax with tea. 08:30 PM: Campfire dinner with stories of the day.

  4. Day 2
    Beluru Temple, Samse Tea Estate & Return

    08:30 AM: Breakfast and checkout. 10:30 AM: Visit the ancient Beluru Hoysala Temple and Samse Tea Estate. 01:30 PM: Lunch en route (self-sponsored). Evening: Reach Bengaluru.

Dos & Don'ts

Do
  • Wear comfortable trekking shoes — mixed terrain of mud, rock and forest floor
  • Carry at least 2 litres of water — limited refill points on the trail
  • Start the summit push early morning for best visibility
  • Move quietly on the trail — the forest has rich birdlife and wildlife
  • Carry a light rain jacket — sudden showers possible year-round
  • Prepare with basic fitness — 16 km is a full day of trekking
Don't
  • Don't leave the trail — unmarked diversions can be confusing in the dense forest
  • Avoid in heavy monsoon — slippery rocks and active leeches on the trail
  • Don't litter — leave the forest exactly as you found it
  • No shouting or loud music — active wildlife zone within the national park
  • Don't attempt the summit alone — stay with the group at all times
