About this trip

Savandurga is a jaw-dropping monolith hill rising to 4,022 ft near Ramanagara, just 60 km from Bangalore. Recognised as one of the largest monolith hills in Asia, its twin peaks — Karigudda (the dark hill) and Biligudda (the white hill) — offer a thrilling trekking experience with panoramic views of the Deccan Plateau. The 5 km trail ascends through thorny scrub and exposed granite slabs, rewarding trekkers with sweeping vistas of Manchanabele Dam, surrounding forests and the distant city skyline. After the adrenaline of the climb, unwind with water activities at Triquetra Resort — kayaking, swimming and team games set against the backdrop of the massive monolith you just conquered.

Itinerary

  1. 6:30 AM – 8:30 AM
    Pickup & Drive

    Pickup from designated Bangalore points. Scenic drive through Ramanagara countryside to Savandurga base.

  2. 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM
    Trek to Summit

    Begin the ascent through rocky terrain and granite slabs. Pass through scrub forest, reach the twin peaks of Karigudda and Biligudda. Enjoy 360° panoramic views from the summit.

  3. 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
    Descent & Water Activities

    Descend to base. Lunch break. Head to Triquetra Resort for water activities — kayaking, swimming and team games.

  4. 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
    Resort Fun & Return

    Continue resort activities. Freshen up and drive back to Bangalore by evening.

  • Wear shoes with excellent grip — the granite rock face is smooth and steep
  • Carry at least 2 litres of water — exposed trail with no shade
  • Apply sunscreen generously — the monolith offers zero shade cover
  • Bring swimwear for water activities at the resort
  • Start the trek early to avoid peak sun on the exposed rock
Don't
  • Don't attempt in wet conditions — granite becomes extremely slippery when wet
  • Don't wear sandals or open footwear — sturdy shoes are mandatory
  • Don't litter on the trail or at the summit
  • Avoid the trek during heavy monsoon — slippery granite is dangerous
