Skandagiri, also known as Kalavara Durga, is a fortress peak rising to 1,450 metres in the Chikkaballapura district, just 65 km from Bangalore. This legendary night trek begins in the stillness of the early hours — you ascend through rocky terrain and sparse forest by torchlight, the stars bright overhead. As you near the summit, ancient fort ruins emerge from the darkness, silent witnesses to centuries of history. The reward awaits at dawn: a spectacular sunrise that paints the cloud-filled valleys below in shades of gold and crimson. On clear mornings, the summit offers panoramic views stretching to Nandi Hills and beyond. The descent in daylight reveals the lush beauty of the trail you climbed in darkness.
Pickup from designated Bangalore points. Drive through the quiet night to Skandagiri trek base near Chikkaballapura.
Begin the ascent by torchlight. Trek 3.5 km through rocky trails and forest patches. Pass ancient fort walls as you approach the summit plateau.
Witness a magnificent sunrise from the summit. Explore the fort ruins, capture photographs of the cloud-filled valleys below. Hot chai at the top.
Descend in daylight enjoying views you missed on the way up. Breakfast at the base. Drive back to Bangalore by late morning.
